One Cool Handheld

Those who know me can say without question that I NEVER jumped on the handheld bandwagon. I just couldn't see palm-sized computers as an effective learning tool. They also will tell you that I'm not a M$ fan either.

I saw this handheld via Karl Kapp and just had to share. Called the OQO-model 02 it is a Windows-based handheld. The device is wireless and bluetooth capable. The RAM and storage space are adequate. The size is just incredible!

The OQO-02 is a fully-functional Windows computer would really serve as a fine instructional tool. Perhaps a bit smaller than some paperbacks but should still work well as an e-book reader.

Issue an OQO to each student so that each would have the finest graphing calculator, the most comprehensive encyclopedia ever, access to online library databases, an interface for all of those science probes, and ALL of their textbooks in one device. Wes Fryer often speaks of "disruptive" technologies. This device is potentially VERY disruptive IMHO.

Fascinating! (although I STILL think the XO is more logical and sustainable.)

Internet Speed Test meme

I've pointed to Chris Craft numerous times as we share an interest in open source tools in education. He's asking edubloggers around the globe to test their internet speed and post the results. I'll play along. This test is from home on a cable modem. To test your Internet speed you may use the Internet Frog!

I've used one in the past from Intel with varying results. How much of this speed test is the result of traffic to the Internet Frog servers?

Let's tag some folks on this new meme and see what happens. (I love paybacks!)
Mr. Gates
Steve
Jayne
Graham will likely play along
